I am Jesslyn B. Malto, and we are all fourth year students taking Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. Before we reach our last semester in college, we are required to take On-the-job training in a host training establishment for preparation in working in real world after school. We are interning at Department of Information, Communication and Technology Legazpi. DICT is a executive department of the Philippine government responsible for the planning, development and promotion of the country’s information and communications technology agenda in support of national development. We started our on-the-job training at DICT on July 2 , 2018.

Learning New Thing

 

During our first month at Department of Information and Communication Technology, Sir Bonganay – our OJT-supervisor, asked us if we already knew how to use MS Access. We said no, since we didn’t encounter using this during our 1st up to our 3rd year studying Information Technology in college, since we only use MySQL and phpMyAdmin. Microsoft Access is a database management system (DBMS) from Microsoft that combines the relational Microsoft Jet Database Engine with a graphical user interface and software-development tools. Sir Bonganay started teaching us how to use MS Access and after that he gave us a sets of data and asked us to create a database from it. We had fun studying MS Access. At first, we thought it’s gonna be difficult because we’re not familiar with it, but as we get to learn how to use it, it became easier for us. We started to apply our learning about database.

CyberSecurity Symposium

 

Cybersecurity Symposium is a seminar held last July 19,2018 at BU-CENG Gymnasium, attended by different government employees, teachers, and students in Bicol. The Cybersecurity Symposium aimed to educate the participants about cyber security, the need for cyber security, and the cybersecurity in the country. We are tasked to accommodate the participants by making them sign the attendance in the sheet. We also distributed the the evaluation form  after the seminar to get the participants feedback. This was our first time to be given a task outside the office. Assisting an event like this was tiring but we had fun :).

Tech4ED Conference

 

Held last September 6, 2018 at Casa Blanca Hotel is the Tech4ED Conference. The day before the said conference, we were busy preparing the kits for the participants. We printed the programme for the event and the certificates for the participants and the speakers. We welcomed the the participants and asked them to sign the attendance sheet, and gave them the kit that the Tech4ED provided.

Scope and Resources Planning

 

 

Scope and Resources Planning is a 3-day seminar that started on September 26 to 28, 2018 held at Hotel St. Ellis. It was attended by different government employees in the Bicol region. The same task was given to us, we took care of the signing of the participants signing of attendance and distributed the kits needed for the event.

 

WORDPRESS

Sir Bonganay taught us a lot of things during our OJT that we didn’t knew back then  or unaware of. WordPress was one of the few things that we appreciated that he taught us how to use. It was easy and fun doing his WordPress activities.  He made us create local government websites which we did, Camalig for example.

 

STOREFRONT

Storefront was another activity he gave us. It was like our project in E-commerce, creating an online shopping website but much easier. If we only knew about this back then, we could have use this to easen our burden during that subject.

 

 

 

During our last month at the office, we had nothing to do since we just finished finalizing our thesis papers. Sir Bonganay doesn’t want us to be stagnant, so he gave us something to do. He gave us 30 programming problems in which we have to answer in pseudocode. We need to give solutions to every problem and explain it to him. He practiced our logical thinking, he taught us to program in our minds first, before coding it. He made us analyze the problem and its outcome.
